A FACEBOOK page set up by Dal by State High School students encouraging young people to post photos of themselves naked online has been shut down by the Department of Education. Titled Sneaky Hat, the Facebook page had more than 10,000 "likes" and had spawned similar Facebook pages, websites and YouTube videos before it was shut down. The craze involves young people posting naked pictures of themselves with a hat covering their genitals and/or breasts. The 15-year-old creator of Sneaky Hat said that the page was initially set up "for a laugh".
"We just thought it was funny, but after a while it started like getting wild, out of control," the Sneaky Hat website's founder said. "There were all these people who were posting naked pictures and stuff. "My mum saw it, she knew and just thought it was funny." Department of Education and Training regional director Greg Dickman said his department had asked Facebook administrators to take the page down. "The department is aware of an inappropriate Facebook page that has allegedly been created by students of Dalby State High School," Mr Dickman said. "Student access to social networking websites has since been blocked at the school." Toowoomba Child Protection Investigation Unit officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Hart said setting up sites like Sneaky Hat could lead to criminal charges. "People who publish explicit photographs that could be classified as child pornography could be subject to prosecution even if they are pictures of themselves," he said.
